Mark Twain stated, “It’s not what you don’t know that holds you back, it’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”

Read that again. Slowly.

The truth is, it’s your “certainty” around some of your marketing beliefs that are holding you back.

Tell me, when was the last time you really questioned and challenged some of your beliefs?  

Did they come from the latest “guru” information?

YOU have a choice.

You can plant your feet firmly and fight to prove yourself “right” or you can challenge your beliefs and become more effective and successful.

Here are 5 questions you must ask yourself:

  1. Have you challenged your idea of the “right” marketing channel for your business?
  2. Do you think there is no need to track your marketing efforts?
  3. Do you rely on the word of the next advertising salesperson for marketing advice?
  4. Do you think that it is impossible to trust others to help with your success?
  5. Do you think that you know everything you need to know?

(As the great UCLA basketball coach John Wooden once said, “It’s what you learn AFTER YOU KNOW IT ALL that really counts.” )

If you answered YES to any of these questions, you will continue to toss your hard earned dollars into the marketing/advertising trash.

Is that what you want?

My strong hunch is … NO!

You want your marketing to do what it is supposed to do.

GET YOU CUSTOMERS.  

The only thing that is holding you back is YOU. Your ill-advised and damaging beliefs, assumptions, and practices.  Unless you change them, they will destroy you and your bank account.

You cannot build a business alone.  Every successful venture of any kind has a team that relies on systems and processes that are effective and repeatable.

You must be able to trust others to run the systems and do their jobs.

With that being said, you have to oversee, not do. You must be able to quickly find out if the system or process is working, and how to make it work better.

The bottom line is that you must learn the basics of marketing if you are to achieve success.

I am not talking about becoming a master marketer. That is not what you do. It is not what you are good at.

But you do need to learn how it works and how to measure results to find the best approach.

Knowledge will keep you from being run over by all of the B.S. that is out there trying to get into your wallet.

Knowledge will keep you from tossing your hard earned money AT advertising, and start INVESTING in marketing. Marketing that will earn you a 200% -300%-500% return on your investment.

YES. It is possible to get back $5 for every $1 you invest.
